Chief Daniel Finkle Bio

Chief Daniel Finkle currently serves as Chief of Police for the Newton Police Department in New Jersey. Over the course of his career he has held leadership positions in patrol, investigations, emergency management, and operational command.

Chief Finkle is a graduate of the West Point Command & Leadership Academy, a nationally recognized program focused on strategic leadership and decision-making under pressure. He also teaches criminal justice courses at Sussex County Community College, where he works with students pursuing careers in law enforcement and public safety.

Throughout his career, Chief Finkle has led complex investigations, supervised critical incidents, and coordinated major emergency responses including hurricanes, large-scale public safety operations, and the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also played a key role in developing modern policing capabilities, including the creation of the department’s drone program and regional law enforcement drone association.

Chief Finkle holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

In the classroom setting, Chief Finkle facilitates structured case discussions that examine the legal, ethical, and leadership dimensions of real-world decision-making.
